With the clear changes in world politics, it comes as a relief to have the launch of two major phones
into the techworld in 2017. The much awaited Samsung galaxy S8 lands in the market in March while the iPhone 8 is set to be released later in the year.

The Samsung S8 is definitely a great way for Samsung to build back the lost confidence in its customers. With the loss of 5 billion in Samsung note 7 which had to be recalled worldwide after the claims that it could catch fire let alone the massive lawsuits. This is clearly a tactical move by the South Korean company to relaunch and take back their position in the mobile world.

Apple on the other hand has over the past few years made it a point to launch a new version of their iPhone into the market annually. With the great reception iPhone 7 and 7 plus received in the market in 2016, we can only wait and see what new surprises the biggest mobile company has in store for its loyal customers his year.

Below we take a look at what to expect in both phones. Both Samsung and Apple have been mum about what they are working on, but based on a few leaks here and there we have come up with the most plausible review of each of them.

1. Design and appearance

IPhone 8 is rumored to have a glass body made with a stainless steel or aluminum frame. This is similar to the design that was used in the iPhone 4 series. Samsung maintains its aluminum and glass finish. We hope that this line shall serve to reinforce the line of Samsung galaxy edge phones.

2. Display and screen

In both phones, there seems to be a total removal of the home button. In the iPhone, there are leaked photos showing an edge to edge display. This means that the finger print identification and front camera are built into the screen.

As for the Samsung, this is a welcome improvement because it means the signature home screen button will be entirely scrapped off. As with the rather monotonous Samsung logo we have all come to know and hate.

Samsung is set to release two of the same phones with different screen sizes each. A 5.8” and 6.2”. Although not confirmed, Samsung display, also owned by Samsung Inc. has released information that it is working on screens with 4K resolution. We hope it shall be used on the Samsung galaxy S8. It is not clear whether we shall have the curved design but we definitely do not want the Quad HD.

3. Water resistance

They are both going to be water resistant. iPhone 8 even has a rating of IP68 already.

This were some of the similarities we found. Now to the individual phones

Samsung galaxy S8

A really awaited feature is the rumored AI assistant. Similar to SIRI, Bixby has the ability to pay cards, access native apps and keep you updated.

The fingerprint reader is at the back and there are rumors that it may be wirelessly charged. There is no clear knowledge on whether or not there will be an earphone jack or if it will rely on wireless Bluetooth headsets.

iPhone 8

Rumored to have two back cameras with an improved front selfie camera. The display is improved OLED from the more common LED. Inside is a 10-nanometer chip rumored to make the phone thinner and consuming of less power.

We hope iPhone retains the wireless charging with hopes of more biometric additions like iris recognition.

On whether or not it shall have an earphone jack is not yet known.
